Pedestrian Fatalities in South Carolina
Pedestrian safety continues to be a pressing concern across South Carolina. Dillon County, with its mix of rural highways and residential roads, has seen an increasing number of pedestrian-involved collisions in recent years. Roads like Fair Bluff Rd, which often lack sidewalks or adequate lighting, can be especially hazardous for individuals traveling on foot.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, pedestrian fatalities accounted for nearly 20% of all traffic deaths statewide in 2024. Contributing factors often include low visibility during early morning or evening hours, driver distraction, and the absence of safe pedestrian infrastructure.
For families who lose loved ones in pedestrian crashes, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Beyond the emotional toll, they may also face unexpected medical bills, funeral costs, and legal challenges. Support services and legal guidance can play a vital role in helping families through such difficult times.
