Discovery Bay, CA (January 29, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle accident on State Route 4 near the Old River Bridge left at least one person severely injured late Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported at approximately 4:39 p.m. on January 27 and initially described as a head-on crash. CHP later confirmed that the incident involved at least four vehicles, including a Toyota Tacoma and a vehicle believed to be either a Honda or a Mercedes-type sedan. Additional vehicles became involved as the situation escalated.
All lanes of SR-4 were completely blocked during the emergency response, causing significant traffic delays in the area. First responders worked to assess the scene and provide aid to the injured parties.
At least one person was transported from the site with major injuries, though their current condition has not been disclosed. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or confirmed the total number of injuries.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the sequence of events and what may have caused the initial collision. Factors such as driver error, road conditions, and vehicle speed will be evaluated.
