Dunklin Co, MO (September 16, 2025) – A deadly collision occurred Sunday evening on US 412, about five miles south of Kennett, claiming the life of a motorcyclist. The crash took place around 8:50 p.m. when a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis pulled into the path of a southbound 2002 Yamaha XV1700. The motorcycle struck the side of the car, causing a severe impact.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 58-year-old man from Paragould, AR, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunklin County Coroner at 9:19 p.m., and his body was transported to the Dunklin County Morgue. Authorities confirmed that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver of the Mercury has not yet been identified, and further details on their condition have not been released.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. The Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office assisted Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop E and the Major Crash Team with the investigation.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family of the motorcyclist during this tragic time.

Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri

The fatal crash on US 412 highlights the dangers motorcyclists face on Missouri roadways, especially when other drivers fail to yield. Motorcycles offer little protection in the event of a collision, making riders especially vulnerable to life-threatening injuries. Intersections and cross-traffic maneuvers, such as when a vehicle pulls into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, are among the most common causes of fatal motorcycle crashes.

Dunklin County and the surrounding region continue to see motorcycle-related crashes each year, often resulting in devastating outcomes. Factors such as limited visibility, lack of protective gear, and driver inattention contribute significantly to the severity of these accidents. The fact that this incident resulted in Troop E’s 43rd fatality of 2025 underscores the ongoing risks along Missouri highways.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to always wear protective gear, including helmets, and remain cautious even on familiar routes. Drivers of passenger vehicles can play a crucial role in preventing tragedies by checking blind spots, yielding appropriately, and exercising extra care when sharing the road with motorcycles.
