Dunklin County, MO (July 10, 2025) – A collision involving a construction truck and a passenger vehicle left two individuals with injuries Wednesday afternoon in Dunklin County. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of US Highway 412 and Missouri Route 108 and was investigated by Trooper L.C. Pruiett of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the official report, a southbound 2008 Kenworth construction truck struck the side of a 2013 Buick LaCrosse, which was also traveling south on US 412. The impact caused the Buick to veer off the left side of the roadway, where it struck a guardrail and sustained minor damage. The truck suffered total damage and was towed from the scene by Rudy’s Towing.
The driver of the Kenworth, a 34-year-old man from Hagerstown, MD, and his 8-year-old male passenger were both wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries. They were transported by EMS to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR, for evaluation and treatment. The 74-year-old male driver of the Buick, a resident of Kennett, MO, was not reported injured and was able to drive away from the scene.
MODOT property was also damaged in the crash. Authorities have not announced any citations, and the incident remains under investigation.
We wish a full and speedy recovery to those injured in this incident.
Commercial Vehicle Crashes and Intersection Safety in Missouri
Crashes involving commercial trucks—especially construction vehicles—pose a significant safety risk due to their size, weight, and slower maneuverability. At intersections like US 412 and MO-108, even a sideswipe impact can force smaller vehicles off the roadway, as was the case in this Dunklin County crash.
Though injuries were reported as minor, the involvement of both an adult and child passenger underscores the vulnerability of occupants when large trucks collide with lighter vehicles. The fact that both were wearing seat belts likely prevented more serious outcomes, particularly in a crash that resulted in total loss of the truck.
Intersections along major corridors like US 412 often involve mixed traffic, including agricultural, local, and interstate vehicles. Misjudging another vehicle’s speed or failing to maintain safe spacing can lead to collisions that result in significant property damage and medical emergencies.
When children are injured in crashes, even minor trauma requires careful medical attention. Families must also navigate the added stress of coordinating follow-up care and dealing with insurance complexities across state lines, especially when commercial vehicles are involved.
