DuPage County, IL (August 18, 2025) – An Illinois State Police trooper was injured early Sunday morning after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their squad car on the Ronald Regan Memorial Tollway. The collision took place around 4:00 AM on the westbound side of I-88 near milepost 139 as the trooper was assisting a stranded motorist.
At the time of the crash, the trooper was parked behind a disabled tractor-trailer with emergency lights activated. According to authorities, a Tesla driven by 24-year-old Sebastian G. Rodriguez of Romeoville failed to move over and struck the rear passenger side of the squad car. The force of impact pushed the squad car into the back of the tractor-trailer. The trooper was inside the vehicle during the crash and sustained injuries.
Both the trooper and Rodriguez were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The squad car sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
