East Huntingdon, PA (September 22, 2025) – A deadly explosion and fire at a mobile home in East Huntingdon Township claimed the life of an elderly man and injured a firefighter on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Round Top Ct, just off Porter Ave near Scottdale.
According to the East Huntingdon Volunteer Fire Company, the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived. The front porch had collapsed, and the victim was found deceased beneath the debris. Nearby residents had tried to rescue the man but were unable to get through the smoke and fire.

We extend our condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and our gratitude to those who responded so swiftly.
Fatal Fire and Explosion Incidents in Pennsylvania
Explosions that result in structure fires, such as the one in East Huntingdon, are often sudden and devastating, especially in mobile home communities where the risk of collapse and flashover is significantly heightened. Investigators will focus on identifying whether the source was gas-related, electrical, or otherwise accidental in nature.
This tragic incident underscores the speed at which fire can spread and the danger it presents to both occupants and those attempting rescue. In this case, bystanders attempted to help but were turned away by the intensity of the flames, a sobering reminder of how quickly these emergencies escalate.
Fire safety awareness, including functional smoke detectors and clear evacuation planning, is especially important in residential setups with older or tightly packed units. Emergency response was rapid in this case, but the intensity of the fire upon arrival left little opportunity for rescue.
