Ellenburg, NY (December 4, 2025) – Two drivers were injured on Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Military Turnpike in the town of Ellenburg, according to New York State Police.
At approximately 2:57 p.m., troopers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a personal injury collision. Their investigation revealed that Susan Chaney, 73, of Plattsburgh, was driving a gray 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander southbound when she failed to maintain her lane. Her vehicle struck a gray 2024 Subaru Forester, driven by 64-year-old Linda Myers of Norwood, on the driver’s side.
Fire and rescue units from the local area quickly arrived and assessed both parties involved. Chaney sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital for medical care. Myers was also evaluated at the scene, but further treatment details have not been released.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and whether any additional factors contributed to the lane departure.
We send our well wishes to both drivers and hope for a smooth and full recovery.
Lane Departure Crashes in New York
Crashes involving lane departures are often sudden and dangerous, particularly on rural roads like the Military Turnpike in Clinton County. A momentary lapse in attention, a medical event, or roadway conditions can all contribute to a vehicle veering out of its lane and into the path of another, as seen in Tuesday’s crash in Ellenburg.
Side-impact collisions, especially those involving the driver’s side, carry a higher risk of injury, as there is less space between the point of impact and the occupant. These types of crashes may lead to concussions, rib fractures, internal injuries, or trauma to the upper body.
Fortunately, in this case, both drivers received immediate medical evaluation thanks to the rapid response from area fire and rescue departments. When first responders can assess and treat victims quickly, it often prevents complications and speeds up recovery.
Drivers in northern New York towns like Ellenburg often face added challenges such as seasonal weather, low visibility, and long stretches of undivided roadways. Maintaining lane position and minimizing distractions are essential for preventing accidents, especially in areas where oncoming traffic is close and unexpected shifts can be fatal.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash involving a lane departure or side-impact, understanding your medical and legal options early can make a significant difference. These cases may involve questions of liability, long-term care needs, and insurance coverage.
