Esparto, CA (September 22, 2024) – Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a serious traffic collision early Sunday morning in rural Yolo County, where a single vehicle veered off the road and into a deep drainage ditch near County Road 89 and Road 3B, just south of the intersection.
Paramedics and Yolo County Fire personnel arrived shortly after 12:20 a.m. to find a vehicle approximately 12 feet off the roadway, resting upright in a 5-foot-deep ditch. One individual was found unresponsive, while another suffered injuries and required immediate medical attention. Emergency responders provided aid at the scene before arranging for transport to nearby medical facilities.
Initial 911 calls indicated significant concern from witnesses, including one report noting the presence of a firearm—a shotgun—held by a person involved in the crash. Due to safety concerns, some bystanders chose not to approach the vehicle, and law enforcement was promptly notified. Deputies from the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol officers took control of the scene, ensuring safety and securing the area before medics entered.
Towing services were dispatched to remove the vehicle from the ditch, and traffic was minimally impacted due to the rural location of the crash. The cause of the collision has not been officially confirmed, but investigations are ongoing and may explore possible driver impairment, mechanical issues, or distractions contributing to the off-road incident.
We extend our thoughts to the individuals injured in this crash and hope for a full recovery for all involved.
