Evansville, IN – One Injured in Residential Structure Fire on Eden Dr

April 5, 2025

Evansville, IN (April 5, 2025) – Emergency crews with the Evansville Fire Department (EFD) responded Saturday to a working structure fire in the 5500 block of Eden Dr, where a blaze broke out at the rear of an apartment building and extended into the attic. At least one individual was injured in the incident.

Crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire conditions in the rear of the structure. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive attack to contain the flames and prevent further damage. The fire was reported to have extended into the attic, prompting a full structural response from EFD.

One person was injured during the fire and received medical attention. The extent of the injuries has not yet been made public, and it is unclear whether the individual was a resident or a responder. That person was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire officials. Damage to the apartment building is believed to be significant due to the fire’s attic involvement, but full assessments are ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured individual and all residents affected by this fire.

Apartment Fire Risks and Emergency Response in Evansville

Fires in multi-unit residential buildings such as apartments pose serious risks due to shared walls, confined attic spaces, and high occupancy. The Eden Dr area is a primarily residential corridor where dense housing increases the risk of rapid fire spread—especially when flames reach upper structural components like attics.

According to fire safety data, attic fires are particularly challenging to control and often result in severe property damage. In many cases, they are caused by electrical faults, cooking incidents, or heating system malfunctions.

Residents of multi-family dwellings are urged to install and regularly test smoke alarms, have a clear fire escape plan, and report any wiring or structural issues promptly. In fire emergencies, evacuate immediately and do not attempt to retrieve personal items.
