Fair Grove, MO (August 5, 2025) – A 75-year-old man from Everton sustained minor injuries following a sideswipe collision on Monday morning along Route E, approximately half a mile east of Fair Grove in Greene County.
The incident occurred around 10:55 AM on August 4, 2025. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 58-year-old man from Elkland was heading eastbound when he attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle. During the maneuver, the Silverado crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound 1992 Ford F-250.
Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were able to be driven from the scene. The driver of the Ford, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to the CMH Clinic in Willard for evaluation. The driver of the Silverado was not injured.
Cpl. D.L. Johnson of Troop D handled the investigation, and no further injuries were reported. The crash remains under review.
We wish the injured driver a quick and full recovery and are thankful the situation did not escalate into a more serious collision.
Sideswipe Collisions in Missouri
While often considered less severe than head-on or rear-end crashes, sideswipe collisions still carry real risk, particularly on rural two-lane roads where visibility and space are limited. Monday’s crash on Route E near Fair Grove is a clear example of how an ill-timed passing maneuver can result in injury, even when both vehicles are traveling at reasonable speeds.
Missouri’s rural roadways, such as Route E in Greene County, are often narrow with limited shoulder space and no physical separation between opposing traffic. In such conditions, passing another vehicle requires absolute caution, proper visibility, and enough distance to complete the move safely. In this case, a passing attempt led to the eastbound Silverado crossing the centerline and making contact with the westbound Ford F-250.
Older drivers, like the 75-year-old man injured in this incident, are statistically more vulnerable to even minor collisions. Although he was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries, prompt follow-up care is always critical, especially when dealing with older individuals who may have preexisting health concerns.
Sideswipe accidents often result in hidden injuries like neck or back strain due to the lateral force involved. While external vehicle damage may seem minimal, the physical toll on occupants can still require professional medical attention.
For anyone involved in a sideswipe or similar rural crash, addressing both medical needs and potential insurance challenges is key. Understanding your rights, accessing trusted support services, and taking action early can make a meaningful difference in recovery.
