Fairfield, ME (July 7, 2024) – A Bangor man is in critical condition after a serious motorcycle crash Saturday evening on an I-95 northbound on-ramp in Fairfield. The crash occurred around 7:05 p.m. at mile marker 133, according to a statement from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Troopers with Maine State Police arrived at the scene to find a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on its side and bystanders administering first aid to the rider, later identified as 40-year-old Kyle Trull. Investigators say Trull struck a guardrail, causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and was initially transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville before being airlifted by Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center in Portland. As of the latest update, Trull remains in critical condition.

Officials noted that Trull was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with Kyle Trull and his family, and we hope for his full recovery.

Motorcycle Safety and Ramp Crashes in Maine

Motorcycle accidents on highway ramps—such as the one that critically injured a Bangor man Saturday—are often among the most dangerous due to high speeds, tight curves, and minimal room for recovery. In this case, the combination of an on-ramp curve and excessive speed likely played a role in the loss of control and subsequent collision with the guardrail.

Fairfield’s I-95 corridor sees significant weekend traffic, and on-ramps can become particularly hazardous for motorcyclists who misjudge speed or traction. Unfortunately, when riders are not wearing helmets—as was the case in this crash—the risk of catastrophic injury increases dramatically.

Helmet use remains one of the most effective ways to prevent head trauma in motorcycle crashes. While Maine law does not require helmets for all riders over age 18, officials continue to emphasize the lifesaving potential of helmet usage—especially during highway travel.

For victims like Kyle Trull, critical injuries often lead to long hospital stays, multiple surgeries, and extended rehabilitation. The impact is not only physical, but also emotional and financial—for both the individual and their family. Medical transport, emergency procedures, and long-term care can result in overwhelming expenses and uncertainty.

Investigations into such incidents focus on vehicle speed, road design, signage, and rider experience. These findings may be essential in determining responsibility and supporting any insurance or legal claims.

If you or someone you care about has been critically injured in a motorcycle accident, it’s important to understand your rights and seek guidance to ensure proper support throughout recovery.
