Interstate Crashes in Central Pennsylvania
Highway crashes like the one that occurred Saturday evening on I-83 southbound in Fairview Township are a frequent concern on Pennsylvania’s busiest travel corridors. Interstates such as I-83 often see elevated crash rates due to high-speed travel, frequent lane changes, and exit/merge congestion—particularly near busy interchanges like Fishing Creek and Lewisberry.
According to PennDOT, injury crashes on interstates remain a leading category for emergency response activations statewide. These incidents are often intensified by the force of high-speed impact and the presence of multiple vehicles traveling in dense traffic patterns.
For those involved, the consequences can range from soft-tissue injuries and fractures to traumatic injuries requiring long-term care. The road to recovery often involves more than just medical attention—it can include insurance disputes, missed income, and legal complexities.
Drivers are urged to maintain proper following distances, avoid distractions, and remain alert when approaching ramps or exit zones. Reducing speed even slightly can provide extra reaction time and help avoid serious outcomes.
