Ferrisburgh, VT (August 15, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision that left two people injured on Wednesday afternoon in Ferrisburgh. The crash occurred at the intersection of US Route 7 and New Haven Rd around 12:04 p.m. on August 14, drawing assistance from the Vergennes Fire Department and the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.
According to reports from Vermont State Police, the crash involved a 2014 Kia Rio driven by 86-year-old Robert Skinner of Newport, and a 2023 International MV607 operated by Ronald Kerr, 70, of Bristol. Investigators determined that Skinner was stopped at the eastbound stop sign on New Haven Rd and proceeded into the intersection without yielding to oncoming traffic on Route 7. As a result, the front end of Skinner’s Kia collided with the front of Kerr’s southbound vehicle.
Following the impact, both vehicles came to rest in uncontrolled positions. Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported Skinner and his passenger to Porter Medical Center with suspected moderate injuries. Kerr was unharmed in the crash.
The Kia sustained total damage in the impact, while the International truck had minor front-end damage. Officials confirmed that all parties involved were wearing seat belts and that road and weather conditions were clear and dry at the time of the accident.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No citations have been reported at this time.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident. We wish them a full and smooth recovery.
Car Accidents in Vermont
Crashes like the one that occurred on US Route 7 in Ferrisburgh highlight the dangers that can arise at rural intersections, especially where highways intersect with secondary roads. Even in clear weather and dry road conditions, misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming vehicles can lead to significant and sudden collisions.
In this case, the failure to yield at a stop sign played a central role in the impact. US Route 7 is a major thoroughfare in Vermont, frequently traveled by both passenger vehicles and commercial trucks. Intersections such as the one at New Haven Rd can be especially dangerous when visibility is limited or when drivers are unfamiliar with traffic patterns in the area.
In Vermont, a large percentage of injury-related crashes occur at or near intersections. Elderly drivers, such as the 86-year-old involved in this collision, may face additional challenges with reaction time and decision-making in high-traffic areas. This underlines the importance of intersection awareness, especially when navigating between local roads and highways.
The fact that both occupants of the Kia were wearing seat belts likely reduced the severity of their injuries, a vital reminder of the effectiveness of basic safety measures. However, even with protective equipment, the force of a high-impact crash can result in serious physical consequences that require immediate and continued medical care.
Anyone involved in a car accident, especially one involving injuries or totaled vehicles, should seek prompt medical evaluation and consider documenting the event thoroughly. This can support both recovery efforts and any necessary insurance or legal claims.
