Flagler County, FL (May 28, 2025) – A Palm Coast woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle in a crosswalk on Tuesday evening. The collision occurred around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of Ravenwood Drive and White View Parkway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers reported that the 34-year-old woman was riding eastbound in the crosswalk when she was hit by a sedan operated by a 94-year-old man from Bunnell. The impact caused serious injuries to the bicyclist, who was rushed to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.
The driver of the sedan, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash. Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and the incident is still under active investigation as officials work to determine whether charges or citations will be issued.
The intersection was temporarily affected as investigators documented the scene and ensured the safety of other roadway users.
We extend our thoughts to the injured woman and her family during this difficult time, and we hope for her full and swift recovery.
Bicycle Crosswalk Accidents in Florida
Tuesday’s serious crash in Flagler County highlights the growing concern over bicycle safety in crosswalks, particularly in suburban areas like Palm Coast, where multi-use pathways intersect with major roads. Florida law grants bicyclists the right to use crosswalks and mandates that drivers yield to individuals lawfully crossing.
However, collisions between vehicles and bicyclists remain a frequent hazard, especially when driver attentiveness is reduced or visibility is compromised. The victim in this case was lawfully crossing the street when she was struck, underscoring the risks cyclists face even in designated crossing areas.
Older drivers may face additional challenges with reaction time and visibility, which can further complicate safety at intersections. While the driver in this incident was not injured, the physical toll on the cyclist—and the legal ramifications—are significant.
For injured cyclists, recovery often involves extended hospitalization, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical care. In Florida, those harmed due to driver negligence have the right to pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost income. In cases involving serious or long-term injuries, legal support becomes critical to ensure victims can access the full scope of available resources.
If you or someone you love has been injured while riding a bicycle, particularly in a crosswalk, it’s important to document the event and seek professional guidance as early as possible.
