Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this tragic time.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Crashes in Michigan
Hit-and-run fatalities like the one on Dort Hwy represent one of the most heartbreaking types of traffic incidents. When a driver flees the scene instead of offering aid or calling for help, the chance of survival for victims often drops drastically. In this Flint case, the lack of immediate aid and the severity of the crash tragically resulted in a life lost.
Michigan law requires all drivers involved in crashes—especially those causing injury or death—to remain at the scene and report the incident to law enforcement. Fleeing the scene can result in felony charges, significant prison time, and civil penalties. Sadly, these laws do not always deter reckless behavior, especially in urban corridors where lighting, visibility, and speed may be contributing factors.
S Dort Hwy is a high-traffic road with frequent pedestrian activity, especially near intersections like Atherton Rd. Drivers in these areas must remain alert and prepared to stop. Victims of hit-and-run crashes and their families often face added emotional and legal burdens due to the uncertainty and injustice involved.
Law enforcement agencies across Michigan are encouraging anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Even small tips can help lead to justice and provide closure to grieving families.
