Bicycle Accidents and Road Safety in Florence
Bicycle accidents, while often less publicized than vehicle crashes, pose a serious risk to riders—especially when traveling along roads like Chisholm Rd that may lack protected lanes or clear shoulder space. Even single-rider incidents can lead to significant injuries, particularly if a fall occurs near traffic or results in head trauma.
Florence has seen a rise in both recreational and commuter cycling in recent years, increasing the importance of bicycle safety infrastructure. According to Alabama’s 2024 traffic data, over 600 reported bicycle crashes resulted in injuries, many of them in urban or semi-urban areas without designated bike lanes.
Riders are urged to wear helmets, use lights or reflective gear at night, and stay on designated paths whenever possible. For communities, the presence of bike-friendly infrastructure such as signage, protected lanes, and road markings can make a significant difference in reducing risk.
Injury victims should always seek prompt medical attention—even in solo crashes—and consider legal guidance if their injuries were caused or worsened by unsafe road conditions or lack of infrastructure.
