Florence Twp, MN (September 2, 2025) – A collision involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck occurred Tuesday morning in Florence Township, resulting in one person being injured. The crash took place at approximately 7:34 a.m. along northbound Highway 61 at Staehli Park Rd in Goodhue County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2022 Freightliner semi and a 2020 Ford F-150 were both traveling northbound on Hwy 61 when they collided under dry road conditions. Four individuals occupied the Ford F-150 at the time of the crash, while the semi-truck had one driver.
Emergency responders from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, Lake City Police, Fire, and Ambulance arrived on the scene to assess and assist those involved. While most occupants in the pickup truck, including the 76-year-old driver and two other passengers, were uninjured, one passenger—identified as 102-year-old Robert Allison Mason of Odebolt, IA—sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Lake City Hospital for further evaluation.
The semi-truck driver, a 59-year-old male from Chippewa Falls, WI, was not injured. Seat belts were reportedly in use by all individuals, and no alcohol involvement was indicated in the official report.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
We extend our best wishes to Robert Allison Mason and hope for his full and speedy recovery.
Truck Accidents in Minnesota
Crashes involving large commercial vehicles, such as semi-trucks, can have serious consequences for everyone involved—particularly in situations where multiple passengers are in smaller vehicles. The collision in Florence Township is a prime example of the dangers posed by highway travel, even in dry and clear conditions.
Minnesota’s highways, including Hwy 61, are vital corridors for both local and interstate transport. However, when commercial trucks and passenger vehicles share the road, even minor miscalculations can result in major incidents. In this case, a rear-end or merging conflict may have led to the crash, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
State data shows that accidents involving semi-trucks often result in a higher percentage of injuries due to the size and weight disparity between commercial and private vehicles. Seniors and passengers in rear seats—such as the 102-year-old man injured in this crash—are especially vulnerable during such collisions.
Recovery from these incidents can be particularly challenging for elderly individuals, who may face longer healing times and increased medical needs. It is critical that families involved in such crashes receive timely information, medical follow-up, and support to navigate the legal and logistical aftermath.
If you or someone in your family has been injured in a truck-involved accident, it’s essential to understand your rights and explore available resources for care and recovery.
