Who Writes the Report in Jacksonville, and How to Get a Copy
Jacksonville and Duval County have had a consolidated government since 1968, which means the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is responsible for law enforcement throughout most of the area. However, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Jacksonville Beach each have their own police departments. Most of the information below focuses on getting JSO crash reports.
You can pick up a crash report from JSO at the Public Counter in the Public Services Building, 450 Magnolia Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204. The Public Records Unit started moving in September 2026, so it’s a good idea to check the address before heading out. For questions, call 904-630-2209 (weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; closed weekends and federal holidays). JSO’s district offices also handle requests, but only if they take less than 30 minutes to process.
Crash report fees are $0.15 per single-sided page, $0.20 for double-sided, and $1 for a certified copy. JSO accepts cash, checks, credit cards, and money orders. For large requests, you’ll get a cost estimate that must be approved before processing. You can also request reports online using JSO’s public records portal at jacksonvilleso.mycusthelp.com. If your crash report is more than two years old, you’ll need to contact the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) instead.
You can also get crash reports statewide through the Florida Crash Portal from FLHSMV. Reports cost $10 plus a $2 convenience fee. Florida law keeps crash reports private for 60 days, except for people involved in the crash and certain others named by law. If your crash only involved property damage and didn’t require an officer, JSO directs drivers to complete FLHSMV’s self-report within 10 days. For step-by-step instructions, check our Florida crash report guide.
Short on time, or not sure which agency has your report? We’ll get a copy of your report for you at no cost.
