Franklin County, MO – One Injured in Head-On Collision on Old Gray Summit Rd

April 22, 2025

Franklin County, MO (April 22, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on Old Gray Summit Rd, just south of Freund Ln, left one person injured Monday evening. The crash occurred around 7:38 PM and was investigated by Trooper W.L. Givens of Missouri State Highway Patrol with assistance from MSgt. E.R. Kessler and Meramec Ambulance District.

According to the official report, the crash occurred when a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling southbound, crossed the center of the road and struck a 2022 Ford Explorer traveling northbound. The front left of the Silverado collided with the left side of the Explorer, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 45-year-old woman from Pacific, MO, was wearing a seatbelt and fortunately was not listed as injured in the report. Her vehicle sustained total damage and was towed by Patriot Towing. The Silverado, driven by a 63-year-old man from Union, MO, sustained moderate damage. He was also wearing a seatbelt but suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital Washington by Meramec Ambulance.

We send our sincere well wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured driver and commend the responders for their coordinated efforts.

Rural Roadway Collisions in Missouri

Collisions on rural roads like Old Gray Summit Rd are often caused by lane departures, misjudged turns, or failure to maintain roadway positioning—particularly on two-lane undivided highways. In this incident, the at-fault driver reportedly failed to remain on the correct side of the road, resulting in a head-on-style crash with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Such incidents are unfortunately common on narrow or winding rural roads, where poor lighting, tight curves, or distractions can reduce reaction time. Even at moderate speeds, lane-crossing collisions often lead to significant damage and injuries.

Seatbelt usage by both drivers in this case likely helped prevent more serious outcomes. Still, this crash serves as a critical reminder of the importance of staying alert and centered within one’s lane on rural highways—especially during low-light evening hours.

When injury occurs, as it did here, recovery often involves more than just emergency care. Follow-up treatments, insurance complications, and vehicle loss can add further stress to those affected.
