Garden City, KS (November 6, 2025) – A two-semi collision on U.S. Highway 83 just south of Garden City led to at least one injury and a major traffic disruption on Tuesday morning. The crash occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. and involved two commercial trucks, one of which was hauling grain.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened when one of the semis attempted a left-hand turn and was struck by the second truck. The impact caused significant damage and led to a grain spill across the highway. One of the truck drivers was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of the injuries has not yet been released.
Emergency crews, including hazardous material teams and cleanup units, were dispatched to manage the scene. A vacuum was brought in to remove the grain from the roadway and safely transfer it to another truck.
The highway remained closed for several hours as troopers investigated the cause of the crash and ensured safe travel conditions for other drivers.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Commercial Truck Collisions in Kansas
Crashes involving commercial vehicles, particularly semi-trucks, often carry severe consequences due to their size, weight, and the nature of their cargo. The collision near Garden City on US 83 illustrates the complexity and danger involved in truck-to-truck crashes, especially when large loads like grain are involved.
Left-turn accidents are a common source of highway collisions, as they frequently require precise judgment and clear visibility. On rural highways like US 83, drivers may underestimate the speed of oncoming vehicles or miscalculate turning space, resulting in catastrophic outcomes. In this case, the added complication of spilled cargo and highway closure intensified the disruption.
Grain trucks and other agricultural haulers are a staple of Kansas roads, especially near regions like Garden City that support the state’s farming and transport industries. However, when these vehicles are involved in accidents, cleanup efforts often require specialized equipment, environmental precautions, and coordinated traffic control.
Injured drivers and others affected by these crashes may face long recovery periods, lost wages, and complex insurance processes. It’s important for those involved in truck accidents to seek both medical attention and legal guidance as early as possible.
