Grady County, OK (September 23, 2025) – A tragic collision on Saturday morning claimed the life of a 10-year-old child and led to a multi-vehicle incident near Highway 152 and County Street 2760 in rural Grady County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) confirmed the crash occurred around 10:30 AM and involved two vehicles, one of which struck a bridge rail before overturning.
According to OHP, the vehicle carrying the child left the roadway to the right and crashed into a bridge barrier. Upon impact, the vehicle flipped, ejecting the young passenger from Moore, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. The child died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle—who was also not wearing a seatbelt—was injured in the crash, though the extent of those injuries has not yet been publicly disclosed. A second vehicle, attempting to avoid the wreck, was struck in the process. Fortunately, both the driver and passenger in that vehicle were properly restrained and did not sustain injuries.
This deadly incident occurred in the same region where a crash earlier this month sent members of the Minco High School softball team to the hospital, raising new concerns about the safety of this stretch of Highway 152.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Authorities are continuing to review the sequence of events, including the factors that led to the vehicle veering off the road. Our hearts go out to the family of the child whose life was lost in this heartbreaking tragedy.
Rural Road Safety and the Importance of Seatbelt Use in Oklahoma
Crashes along rural highways like Highway 152 in Grady County often carry a higher risk of severe outcomes due to higher speeds, limited shoulder space, and longer emergency response times. Saturday’s fatal incident underscores the life-threatening consequences of not wearing a seatbelt—especially for young passengers.
In Oklahoma, data consistently shows that seatbelt use dramatically reduces the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash. In this heartbreaking case, both the driver and child were unrestrained, which significantly increased the chances of ejection during a rollover. Tragically, the child’s injuries were fatal.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the second vehicle, who were properly buckled in, escaped unharmed—highlighting the life-saving role of seatbelts in every vehicle, on every trip, regardless of distance or location.
This region has seen several serious crashes in recent weeks, and communities are calling for improved roadway signage, better guardrails, and increased education around seatbelt use, particularly in rural parts of the state. Preventing future tragedies will require a joint effort among law enforcement, policymakers, and the public to emphasize safe driving habits and child passenger safety.
