Harris County, TX (January 18, 2026) – A 25-year-old man was killed, and multiple people were injured early Saturday morning in a violent wrong-way crash that resulted in a vehicle fire on Tomball Parkway, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 1:39 a.m. on January 18 in the 21600 block of Tomball Pkwy near Jones Rd. Authorities say Julio Alberto Calero Ramirez, 25, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with another car traveling in the correct direction.
Ramirez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to erupt in flames. Deputies, along with wrecker operators, acted quickly and bravely pulled the injured driver from the burning vehicle. That driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that three deputies received minor injuries while rescuing the victim. They were assessed by EMS at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including what led to the wrong-way driving.
Our thoughts are with the injured survivor and the families affected by this tragedy. We commend the deputies and responders whose swift action likely saved a life.
