Pedestrian Safety and Highway Hazards in South Carolina
Pedestrian fatalities along highways like SC-15 remain a significant concern across South Carolina. These roads are often poorly lit and lack dedicated pedestrian infrastructure, making them particularly dangerous for those on foot, especially after dark.
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety continues to raise awareness about the risks pedestrians face, urging individuals to wear reflective clothing, use sidewalks or shoulders when available, and avoid walking along highways at night whenever possible. Similarly, drivers are reminded to remain vigilant for pedestrians, particularly in areas with limited visibility or where foot traffic is common despite a lack of marked crossings.
Unfortunately, incidents like the one near South Fifth Street are all too frequent. For the families left behind, the pain of such sudden loss is often compounded by unanswered questions and legal uncertainties. In such cases, it is crucial for loved ones to seek support and understand their rights regarding investigations and potential legal actions.
