Hebron, OH (January 16, 2026) – A devastating house fire near Buckeye Lake early Friday morning has left one person dead and another hospitalized in critical condition, according to local fire officials.
The fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. on Mill Dam Rd, just north of the Interstate 70 overpass in Licking County. When crews from the Buckeye Lake Fire Department arrived on scene, they found heavy flames engulfing the structure. A woman was located near the front door—alert and breathing—while firefighters were informed that a second individual remained trapped on the second floor.
Both victims were initially transported to a nearby hospital, and emergency medical teams provided advanced life support during transport. However, West Licking Joint Fire Assistant Chief Joseph Krouse later confirmed that one of the victims had succumbed to their injuries.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire, which severely damaged the home.
