High Point, NC (January 1, 2025) – The High Point Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the morning of December 31, 2024, at the intersection of East Lexington Ave and Cook St. The collision tragically claimed the life of a moped driver.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the crash was reported at approximately 7:06 AM. Upon arrival, they found that the moped driver, identified as Douglas Gregory Haggerty of High Point, had succumbed to his injuries at the scene. According to authorities, Haggerty was traveling west on East Lexington Ave when a vehicle turning left from Cook St struck his moped.
Investigators determined that the vehicle, driven by Dayra Denesse Santos Pineda of High Point, failed to yield the right-of-way while making the left turn. Pineda has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to yield from a stop sign, and no operator’s license. The High Point Police Department’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into this tragic incident.
