According to investigators, the crash happened when a 2023 Dodge Charger, driven by a 48-year-old Armstrong woman, was stopped at a stop sign on Route V. As she attempted to make a left turn, her vehicle was struck on the side by a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 20-year-old woman from Laquey. The Silverado sustained minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene, while the Charger sustained moderate damage and was towed by Double R Towing.
Both drivers suffered moderate injuries despite wearing seatbelts. Emergency responders with Howard County Ambulance transported the women to University Hospital for treatment. The Howard County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol with the investigation and traffic control.
Our thoughts are with the injured women, and we wish them both a full and speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
The collision at MO-3 and Route V illustrates how intersection-related crashes remain a significant hazard for Missouri drivers. In this case, a vehicle stopped at a stop sign attempted a left turn and was struck by another vehicle already traveling through the intersection. Situations like these are among the leading causes of injury crashes on rural highways.
Missouri transportation reports frequently highlight that intersections controlled by stop signs, particularly in rural areas like Howard County, present elevated risks. Misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming traffic often results in T-bone collisions, which can lead to moderate to severe injuries due to the direct impact on a vehicle’s side.
For drivers in Armstrong and surrounding communities, this crash serves as a reminder to exercise patience at intersections and double-check for oncoming traffic before turning. Defensive driving practices—such as slowing earlier when approaching intersections and anticipating potential driver errors—can help reduce the likelihood of serious collisions.
