Independence, MO (January 3, 2025) – A tragic crash on westbound Interstate 70 near Noland Rd Thursday night claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman and left her passenger seriously injured. The accident occurred just after 8 p.m. when the Ford Focus she was driving collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer.
According to the Independence Police Department, the tractor-trailer had stopped on the interstate due to a vehicle ahead experiencing mechanical issues. Crystal Williams of Lawrence, Kansas, was identified as the driver of the Ford Focus. Despite wearing a seat belt, Williams succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her passenger, who also wore a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash. Police closed part of I-70 to investigate the incident, reopening all lanes by 11:55 p.m.
