Indianapolis, IN (January 17, 2026) – A man sustained serious injuries following a car accident that occurred during a police pursuit near North Senate Avenue in Indianapolis. Emergency crews provided advanced medical care en route to the hospital.
The incident took place around 10:20 p.m. on January 15. According to emergency radio communications, the male patient reportedly suffered throat trauma after being involved in a crash while fleeing from law enforcement. Paramedics from Medic 41 responded and initiated treatment, noting that the man was in respiratory distress and showing signs of subcutaneous emphysema, often referred to as “Rice Krispies” due to the crackling sensation under the skin.
In preparation for rapid sequence intubation (RSI), emergency crews administered multiple medications, including fentanyl, ketamine, and rocuronium. However, due to complications with an IV infiltration, medics consulted with medical control and ultimately decided to withhold further RSI attempts while continuing transport to Methodist Hospital. The patient remained conscious and was breathing on his own during the transport.
Indianapolis police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash. Further details about the cause of the pursuit, the crash itself, and any criminal charges have not yet been released.
We hope for a full and swift recovery for the injured individual and await further updates as the investigation continues.
