Indianapolis, IN (August 11, 2025) – A 14-year-old male was struck by a vehicle at approximately 9:24 p.m. on August 9, at the intersection of Radnor Rd and N Arlington Ave. Emergency medical teams quickly responded to the scene after the vehicle, traveling at an estimated 40 miles per hour, hit the juvenile. The driver reportedly applied the brakes before impact, which likely reduced the severity of the collision.
The injured pedestrian was found to have suffered multiple injuries, including pain in the right elbow, road rash, left hip pain, and pain at the back of his head, where he had fallen after the impact. Despite the severity of his injuries, the young victim did not lose consciousness at any point. He was conscious and alert with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 15, indicating full awareness.
The patient’s current vitals included a heart rate of 117 bpm, blood pressure of 129/85 mmHg, and oxygen saturation of 97% on room air. Despite these concerning signs, the child’s mother refused to allow transport to the hospital. Emergency personnel, concerned about the potential for head injuries and other unseen complications, recommended hospitalization, but the refusal to transport left responders with concerns about the child’s well-being.
The incident is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the pedestrian accident.
Our thoughts are with the young pedestrian, and we hope for his swift and full recovery.
Pedestrian Safety in Indianapolis
Pedestrian accidents like the one on Radnor Rd & N Arlington Ave are a serious reminder of the importance of safety for both pedestrians and drivers. In Indianapolis, incidents involving pedestrians are often caused by drivers failing to notice pedestrians in crosswalks or failing to stop in time when approaching pedestrians on the road.
Pedestrians are encouraged to be extra cautious when crossing streets, especially at busy intersections. Drivers should always be vigilant for pedestrians, particularly in areas with heavy foot traffic or near school zones. Slowing down and being aware of one’s surroundings can help prevent accidents and save lives.
