Indianapolis, IN (January 31, 2026) – A traffic collision involving multiple vehicles and injuries was reported Friday afternoon on East Washington St in Indianapolis. The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. near a busy commercial stretch that includes a Walmart and a Steak ‘n Shake restaurant.
According to early dispatch reports, the crash involved a maroon Chevy Equinox SUV and a dark-colored two-tone Dodge Ram pickup. The truck was reportedly leaking fuel following the collision. First responders with Indianapolis Fire Department and EMS were quickly dispatched to the scene, where injured drivers requested medical assistance.
Additional callers described a chaotic scene, with westbound traffic affected in front of the Walmart and further congestion reported in the eastbound lanes. Emergency crews worked to stabilize the area, assist the injured, and contain the fuel leak. Tow services were requested for at least one of the vehicles due to the extent of the damage.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of people injured or the circumstances leading to the crash. An active investigation is underway to determine whether speed, distraction, or failure to yield may have played a role in the collision.
