Indianapolis, IN (May 15, 2025) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims following a complex crash Wednesday evening that involved two vehicles, a pedestrian, and a building on the 10400 block of East Washington St. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. and prompted a response from Engine 45, Ladder 44, and Medic 98.
According to initial reports, the pedestrian was struck while crossing an intersection when one of the vehicles involved turned into him. He reportedly “rode the side of it” before falling, sustaining visible injuries. Medics treated the man for an abrasion to his left hip and a noticeable deformity to his lower left leg and ankle—potential indicators of a fracture or dislocation. He remained conscious and oriented and denied any loss of consciousness.
The force of the crash also involved a nearby building, suggesting a significant impact that affected more than just the immediate roadway. Emergency crews applied a cervical collar and began stabilization procedures. The extent of additional damage to the structure or other injuries has not been confirmed.
Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian and all involved in this incident.
Pedestrian and Multi-Vehicle Crashes on E Washington St
East Washington St is one of Indianapolis’s busiest thoroughfares, blending commercial activity, pedestrian crossings, and frequent vehicle congestion. Crashes like this one—which involve pedestrians and structures—underscore the high risk presented by intersections in dense urban environments.
According to Indiana traffic data, pedestrian crashes involving turning vehicles account for a significant share of serious injuries, particularly when visibility is compromised or drivers fail to yield properly. Urban corridors with adjacent buildings and limited crosswalk protections heighten these risks.
For pedestrians, staying in marked crosswalks and maintaining situational awareness are vital. Drivers are reminded to check for pedestrians before turning and to approach intersections cautiously, especially during peak traffic hours.
