Jackson Co, OH (August 25, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash involving a car and a parked trailer injured three people Saturday evening on Keystone Furnace Rd. The collision occurred around 8:03 p.m. and is currently under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
According to OSHP, 25-year-old Tyler Hunt of Jackson was driving westbound in a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier when he struck a trailer that was parked along the side of the road. At the time, Jeremy Harlow, 40, and William Sexton, 65, also of Jackson, were loading a tractor onto the trailer.
The impact of the crash not only overturned Hunt’s vehicle but also injured both Harlow and Sexton, who were standing near the trailer during the collision. Hunt and Harlow were transported to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson with injuries, while Sexton—due to the severity of his condition—was airlifted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for advanced treatment.
Responding units included the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Fire Department, Jackson EMS, and an Aire-vac helicopter crew.
The incident remains under investigation by state troopers.
Our thoughts are with all three injured men, and we wish them strength and healing as they recover from this crash.
Roadside Loading Accidents and Safety Risks in Rural Ohio
Crashes involving vehicles stopped on the shoulder or roadside—like the incident on Keystone Furnace Rd—pose unique risks, particularly in rural areas with narrow lanes, low lighting, and limited visibility. When individuals are outside their vehicles to conduct work, such as loading equipment onto a trailer, even a momentary lapse by an approaching driver can result in devastating consequences.
In this case, the impact not only overturned the striking vehicle but also directly injured two individuals who were not inside a car at the time of the collision. These types of incidents often result in serious injuries due to the lack of protection afforded to people standing or walking along the road.
Ohio drivers are required to move over or slow down when approaching any vehicle stopped on the side of the road, especially when individuals are present. Failing to do so can result in criminal liability and civil consequences.
For crash victims, the recovery process can be long and challenging—requiring hospital stays, rehabilitation, and support with transportation, insurance claims, and loss of income. It’s critical that those affected have access to reliable information and assistance as they work toward recovery.
