Jackson County, FL – Fatal Collision on I-10 Near MM 144 Claims One Life

September 16, 2025

Jackson County, FL (September 16, 2025) – A deadly crash occurred Monday morning on Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 144, leaving one man dead and another injured. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 a.m., confirming that the collision involved a pickup truck and a sedan traveling in the same direction.

According to troopers, a 32-year-old woman from Alta was driving a pickup westbound in the inside lane, while a 37-year-old Grand Ridge man was operating a sedan in the outside lane at a slower speed. As the pickup truck moved into the outside lane to pass another vehicle, it struck the rear of the sedan.

The impact forced the sedan to accelerate forward before rotating. Emergency responders from Jackson County EMS arrived quickly but were unable to save the sedan driver, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Lanes in the westbound direction were partially closed during the investigation and response, leading to delays for other morning commuters. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash and has not yet determined if charges will be filed.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this tragic accident.

Fatal Car Accidents in Florida

Tragic collisions like the one on I-10 near Mile Marker 144 underscore the devastating consequences of even momentary decisions on the highway. Interstate travel often involves high speeds and quick lane changes, and when slower-moving vehicles are present, the risk of rear-end collisions increases significantly.

Florida law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance and exercise caution when changing lanes, especially at highway speeds. In this case, the sudden impact between the pickup truck and the slower-moving sedan resulted in fatal consequences for the driver of the smaller vehicle.

High-speed collisions frequently result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities, particularly when one vehicle is traveling at a significantly lower speed than the other. Rear-end crashes are among the most common types of highway collisions and often leave little time for either party to react.

For families affected by fatal crashes, the emotional toll is immediate—but legal and financial concerns often follow quickly. Funeral costs, loss of income, and insurance claims add pressure during an already devastating time. In Florida, wrongful death claims may be an option for surviving family members, depending on the outcome of the crash investigation.

Accurate crash documentation, witness accounts, and medical reports all play a critical role in supporting families through the aftermath of such incidents. It’s also important that surviving victims receive the medical care and emotional support needed to begin healing.

No one expects to face tragedy on the road—but when the unthinkable happens, informed action and compassionate guidance are key.
