Jackson, MS (January 16, 2026) – A man was found dead late on Thursday night after firefighters responded to a house fire on Westhaven Dr in Jackson, according to the Jackson Fire Department.
The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. on January 15. As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, they discovered the body of an unidentified male inside the residence. The Hinds County Coroner’s Office took custody of the body, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials noted that the structure was previously known to be vacant. Just days prior to the fatal fire, firefighters had responded to the same address and encountered a person without permanent housing inside. During that earlier incident, only light smoke was reported coming from the structure.
No additional injuries were reported in Thursday’s fire, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.
