Jacksonville, FL (August 10, 2025) – A 34-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed Friday night after being struck by a pickup truck on Normandy Blvd, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m., east of Fouraker Rd, along State Road 228. Investigators say the woman was attempting to cross the roadway outside of a crosswalk when she stepped into the path of an eastbound red Ford F-150 driven by a 74-year-old Jacksonville man.
The left front side of the truck struck the woman, causing severe injuries. She was transported to UF Health, where both she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
FHP reports that the incident remains under investigation, and no further details have been released regarding potential charges.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
Pedestrian Safety Concerns on High-Speed Jacksonville Corridors
Normandy Blvd, part of State Road 228, is a major arterial roadway in Jacksonville where posted speeds and heavy traffic can make pedestrian crossings especially dangerous. Intersections are often widely spaced, leading some pedestrians to cross outside designated crosswalks—an action that greatly increases the risk of a collision.
Data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles shows that pedestrian fatalities remain a persistent problem in Duval County, particularly along high-speed, multi-lane roads. At night, reduced visibility further elevates the danger for those traveling on foot.
Officials encourage both pedestrians and drivers to exercise heightened caution—pedestrians by using marked crosswalks and wearing visible clothing at night, and drivers by remaining alert for unexpected crossings.
