Jefferson County, MO (September 1, 2025) – A 68-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured on Saturday morning following a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route B and Missouri Route 21 in Jefferson County.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:39 a.m. when a 2019 Harley-Davidson Road Glide, operated by the Hillsboro man, attempted to turn onto southbound Route B from southbound MO-21. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, the motorcycle entered the intersection against a red light.
At that moment, a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by a 17-year-old male from Hillsboro, struck the left side of the Harley-Davidson, ejecting the motorcyclist upon impact. The rider was then thrown into the path of a third vehicle, a 2012 Ford F-150, which was proceeding through the green light and struck the man a second time.
The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by ARCH Air Medical Transport to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for emergency care. The Chevrolet Avalanche and motorcycle both sustained total damage, while the Ford pickup had no visible damage and remained operable. The drivers of the other two vehicles were reportedly uninjured and able to drive their vehicles from the scene.
Trooper Richardson of Troop C conducted the investigation with assistance from other units. The crash remains under active review.
Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist and his loved ones, and we hope for his full recovery.
Motorcycle Collisions at Intersections in Missouri
Crashes involving motorcycles at intersections are among the most catastrophic on Missouri roadways. Saturday’s incident at the junction of Route B and MO-21 highlights the risks motorcyclists face when navigating high-speed, signal-controlled intersections.
In this case, the motorcyclist entered the intersection against a red light, an error with devastating consequences. The subsequent ejection and secondary impact by another vehicle underscore just how vulnerable riders are, even when protective gear is used. Unlike enclosed vehicles, motorcycles offer little physical protection in multi-vehicle collisions.
Serious injuries from motorcycle crashes often involve long recovery periods, costly medical care, and permanent physical or emotional trauma. The involvement of a teen driver and a pickup truck operator in this crash further illustrates how multiple vehicles, signals, and visibility issues can all converge into a chaotic and dangerous situation.
High-speed intersections like MO-21 and Route B require complete focus and adherence to traffic signals from all road users. Motorcyclists, especially, must exercise extra caution when turning or crossing through complex intersections where visibility may be reduced or where timing misjudgments can result in life-threatening events.
For victims and their families, the path to recovery involves far more than just medical treatment. Insurance claims, liability determinations, and legal options all play a role in the aftermath of a serious crash.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a motorcycle accident in Missouri, taking the right steps early on is crucial to protecting your rights and securing the care you need.
