Jefferson County, MO (August 12, 2025) – A 56-year-old man from Dittmer was injured on Monday evening in a two-vehicle collision on Route Y south of Rend Lane in Jefferson County. The crash happened at approximately 6:40 p.m. when a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Equinox attempted a left turn and failed to yield to a southbound 2009 Chevrolet Aveo. The front left of the Equinox struck the front right of the Aveo, causing the Aveo to leave the roadway and overturn.
The Aveo’s driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment. The driver of the Equinox, a 42-year-old woman from Desloge, was not hurt. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to the extent of damage.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a swift recovery.
Left-Turn Accidents in Missouri
Left-turn collisions are a common cause of injury crashes, particularly when drivers fail to yield to oncoming traffic. These types of crashes often occur when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle. In Monday’s case on Route Y, the Missouri State Highway Patrol determined that the Equinox’s turn placed it directly in the path of the oncoming Aveo, leading to the collision and rollover.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, left-turn crashes can be especially dangerous because they frequently involve a high-speed, front-to-side impact. In rural and semi-rural areas like this section of Route Y, higher travel speeds increase the severity of such collisions. Defensive driving practices, such as waiting for a clear gap in traffic and avoiding rushed decisions, can help prevent these crashes.
