The SUV, a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 19-year-old Christopher Borsom of Plainfield, was traveling south on Ridge Rd and attempted a left turn onto Caton Farm Rd when it collided with a northbound Peterbilt semitruck. The impact caused the semitruck to flip on its side, spilling a substantial quantity of rock onto the roadway.
Borsom and his 12-year-old male passenger were both taken to St. Joseph Medical Center. Borsom sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the child passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver of the semitruck was not injured in the crash.

Truck Collisions and Intersection Crashes in Illinois
Collisions involving commercial trucks and passenger vehicles are among the most dangerous on Illinois roadways. When a semitruck overturns, as seen in this Joliet crash, the potential for injury and large-scale disruption rises dramatically. Roads like Caton Farm Rd and Ridge Rd serve as key connectors in the area, and intersections here often witness high traffic volumes, increasing the chance of conflict between vehicles.
Intersection crashes are frequently caused by driver error, including failure to yield, distractions, or misjudging the speed of oncoming traffic. When semitrucks are involved, the consequences are amplified due to the size and weight of the vehicles, as well as their cargo.
Those injured in truck-related accidents should always seek medical treatment and consider their legal options. Victims may be entitled to compensation for their injuries, medical bills, and vehicle damage—especially if citations were issued at the scene. Proper documentation and legal support can be vital in ensuring a fair outcome during recovery.
