Jones County, MS (July 1, 2025) – A serious crash involving a pickup truck and a passenger car left one woman critically injured and trapped inside her vehicle Saturday afternoon in the Powers community of Jones County. The two-vehicle collision occurred on Mississippi Highway 184 near the intersection with Stone Cutoff Rd, prompting a large emergency response from multiple agencies.
According to Powers Fire and Rescue, the crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a 21-year-old man with a 14-year-old passenger, and a Fiat passenger car driven by an adult woman. Upon arrival, responders discovered the woman trapped inside her Fiat, suffering from apparent serious injuries.
Due to the positioning of the vehicles and limited access on the driver’s side, rescue crews used hydraulic tools to force open the passenger side of the vehicle. The injured woman was carefully placed on a backboard and extricated through the passenger door before being transported by EMServ to South Central Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment.
The male driver and teen passenger in the Silverado were assessed on the scene and declined medical transport. No additional injuries were reported.
Emergency personnel from Powers, M&M, Rustin, and Sandersville volunteer fire departments, as well as the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol, responded to the crash. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
We extend our thoughts and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the injured woman and hope for comfort and support for all those involved.
Entrapment and Serious Injury Collisions in Mississippi
Saturday’s crash on MS-184 in Jones County illustrates the unique challenges and dangers associated with vehicle entrapment scenarios. When a car becomes severely damaged or blocked by another vehicle, victims may be unable to exit safely, increasing the risk of prolonged exposure to injuries or internal trauma. In these moments, rapid deployment of hydraulic rescue tools—like those used by Powers Engine 1—can be life-saving.
Entrapment situations also increase the likelihood of spinal or orthopedic injuries, requiring careful coordination between fire crews, EMS, and hospital trauma teams. For the woman involved in this crash, the use of a backboard and alternate exit strategy speaks to the precision and urgency required in such extractions.
Crashes at rural intersections like Stone Cutoff Rd often occur at speed and involve limited visibility or failure to yield. Though the full cause of this crash remains under investigation, high-speed angle collisions and delayed reaction times are common contributing factors.
For those injured in such incidents, recovery can involve not only physical rehabilitation but also emotional adjustment, time away from work, and burdensome medical expenses. Accessing timely care, documenting injuries, and understanding available support resources is vital.
