Kansas City, KS (August 1, 2025) – A rollover crash on eastbound I-70 in Wyandotte County sent three individuals to the hospital early on Friday morning. The collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. near the N 78th St exit and involved a single vehicle overturning in a ditch.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2010 Jeep Patriot was traveling eastbound on the interstate when a white sedan swerved into its lane. In an effort to avoid a collision, the Jeep veered off the right side of the highway. The vehicle struck a metal delineator post and the end of a metal guardrail before flipping twice and landing upright in a ditch.
Emergency responders from Kansas City Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene to assist the victims. The driver, Christian Gambrell, 23, of Leavenworth, was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital. Authorities stated that he did not appear to have sustained injuries and was wearing a seat belt.
Two passengers in the Jeep were also transported to the hospital. Jordan Nelson, 23, also of Leavenworth, had no apparent injuries. However, an infant identified as Kai Nelson suffered suspected injuries in the crash. Officials have not confirmed the current condition of the child.
