Kendall County, IL (March 14, 2025) – A tragic crash in rural Kendall County left an 83-year-old woman dead and two others with life-threatening injuries on Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred at approximately 2:17 p.m. at the intersection of Ashley and Walker roads, south of Yorkville.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle traveling north on Ashley Rd entered the intersection and collided with a westbound car on Walker Rd. The impact of the crash left both drivers with severe injuries.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and had to cut open the roof of one vehicle to extricate two people. The driver of the northbound car was airlifted to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. The passenger in that vehicle, identified as 83-year-old Susan Guglielmi of Yorkville, was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the westbound vehicle also sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities closed the intersection for about four hours while investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim, and we also wish the injured individuals a full recovery.

Dangers of Rural Intersection Crashes in Illinois

Rural intersections, such as Ashley and Walker roads, present unique hazards due to limited traffic control measures, higher travel speeds, and reduced visibility. Many rural roads lack traffic signals, requiring drivers to rely on stop signs and their own judgment when entering an intersection.

One of the leading causes of rural intersection accidents is failure to yield. When drivers misjudge the speed of oncoming vehicles or fail to notice approaching traffic, devastating crashes can occur. These accidents often result in serious injuries due to higher impact forces and the lack of nearby medical facilities, leading to extended response times.

Victims of rural crashes may face overwhelming medical expenses, long recovery periods, and emotional distress. Understanding available support options can be crucial in the aftermath of such incidents.
