Kinder, LA (July 30, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Louisiana Highway 12 and US Highway 171 claimed the life of a 68-year-old woman from Kinder on Wednesday, according to Louisiana State Police.
Officials say the crash occurred as Jacqueline Mills was exiting US Hwy 171 and approaching LA Hwy 12. According to Trooper Henry Perez with the Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Section, Mills failed to stop at a posted stop sign on the exit ramp. Her vehicle entered the path of an oncoming truck and was struck on the driver’s side.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Mills sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen Parish Coroner’s Office. A passenger in her vehicle was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No update on their condition has been released.
The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries, while two passengers in that vehicle were unharmed. Authorities noted that all occupants in both vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers as part of standard protocol in fatal crash investigations. The crash remains under active review by Louisiana State Police.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Jacqueline Mills, and we send our thoughts to the injured passenger during this difficult time.
Stop Sign Violations and Rural Intersection Dangers in Louisiana
The fatal collision at LA Hwy 12 and US Hwy 171 sheds light on the significant dangers present at rural highway intersections—especially those with high-speed through traffic and limited merging visibility. Stop sign violations, whether due to distraction, misjudgment, or unfamiliarity with the roadway, are a leading cause of serious and fatal crashes in Louisiana.
Exit ramps, like the one where Wednesday’s incident occurred, often present unique hazards. Drivers must decelerate quickly, scan for cross traffic, and merge safely—tasks that become more challenging when intersections are poorly lit or minimally marked. In this case, the failure to stop resulted in a direct side-impact crash, one of the most dangerous collision types for vehicle occupants.
For passengers and surviving victims, the aftermath of such crashes can include long hospital stays, trauma recovery, and financial hardship from lost work and medical bills. For families of the deceased, there are additional burdens—legal questions, funeral arrangements, and the emotional toll of sudden loss.
