Kragnes Township, MN (September 20, 2025) – A two-vehicle accident in Clay County resulted in injuries Friday afternoon at the intersection of 10th St NW and 90th Ave NW. The crash was reported around 2:46 p.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Authorities said a 2006 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on 90th Ave NW when it collided with a 2012 Subaru Outback that was turning northbound onto 10th St NW. The impact occurred in the intersection on wet road conditions.
The driver of the Subaru, 72-year-old Sandra Kay Nye of Moorhead, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Sanford EMS to Sanford Hospital in Fargo for treatment. The driver of the Ford, 32-year-old Daniel Octavo of Montevideo, along with his three passengers, were evaluated but did not report any injuries.
The airbags deployed in the Ford during the crash, and all occupants were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor in the incident. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene along with Sanford EMS.
The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate the collision.
Our thoughts are with Sandra Nye, and we hope for her full recovery following this accident.
Intersection Accidents in Minnesota
Crashes at rural intersections like 10th St NW and 90th Ave NW in Kragnes Township can be especially hazardous. These areas often lack advanced traffic controls, relying on stop signs and driver attentiveness. Combined with wet road conditions, intersections can quickly become dangerous points of conflict between through traffic and turning vehicles.
In Minnesota, many intersection accidents occur when drivers fail to yield the right of way, misjudge distances, or struggle with reduced visibility during adverse weather. Even when speeds are moderate, the angle of impact in such crashes can cause significant injury, especially to older drivers or passengers.
In this case, the swift arrival of Sanford EMS ensured that the injured driver received immediate transport to a medical facility. While the occupants of the Ford were unharmed, the Subaru driver’s hospitalization highlights the vulnerability of older drivers in side-impact collisions.
For those injured in intersection crashes, recovery can involve medical treatment, therapy, and navigating the financial and emotional aftermath. Access to reliable crash reports and local support resources can make this process more manageable.
