La Place, IL (September 18, 2025) – A fatal collision involving two semi-trucks occurred Wednesday morning at the intersection of Illinois Route 32 and U.S. Route 36, just south of La Place. The crash claimed the life of 63-year-old Michael B. Griffith of Mt. Zion.
Illinois State Police reported that the incident took place around 10:45 AM when a semi-truck traveling on IL 32 entered the intersection. Its trailer was struck by another semi traveling along US 36, causing a devastating impact.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported both drivers to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Griffith succumbed to his injuries after arrival. The second driver’s condition has not been released.
The crash forced the closure of the intersection for several hours, with traffic being rerouted until approximately 4:30 PM as investigators worked to clear the scene and document evidence.
