Fatal Crashes in Missouri
Fatal crashes, like the one on I-70 in Lafayette County, are often caused by a combination of factors. While this particular crash involved a vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a ditch, many fatal accidents in Missouri are also attributed to speeding, impaired driving, or driver fatigue. In the first quarter of 2025, Missouri has seen a concerning increase in fatalities caused by single-vehicle accidents, particularly among young drivers.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that young drivers, especially those under 25, are more likely to be involved in crashes due to inexperience and sometimes risky behaviors, such as not wearing seatbelts. In Missouri, seatbelt non-compliance remains a significant factor in road fatalities. According to state statistics, approximately 60% of fatalities in 2024 were not wearing seatbelts, further emphasizing the importance of this life-saving habit.
In the aftermath of an accident like this, it’s important for victims and their families to understand their rights.
