Lafayette Twp, MN (August 14, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on Minnesota Highway 15 in Nicollet County resulted in non-life-threatening injuries on Tuesday afternoon. The collision occurred just south of Fort Rd in Lafayette Township at approximately 1:51 p.m., prompting a response from Allina EMS, Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, and Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Medics provided care to a 48-year-old male driver from Sleepy Eye who sustained non-life-threatening injuries after his 2005 Sterling straight truck overturned into a ditch. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2013 Ford Edge traveling southbound on Hwy 15 veered into the northbound lane, forcing the truck driver to swerve in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. The evasive maneuver caused the truck to run off the roadway and overturn.
The driver of the SUV, a 20-year-old male from New Ulm, was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident. No airbags were deployed in either vehicle, and officials confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Authorities worked to clear the scene and restore safe travel along Hwy 15, which remained partially impacted during the investigation.
We wish the injured driver a full and speedy recovery and extend our concern to all involved in this serious incident.
Rural Truck Accidents in Minnesota
Tuesday’s crash on MN-15 highlights the dangers faced by commercial and personal vehicle drivers on rural Minnesota highways. The section of MN-15 south of Fort Rd, where the crash occurred, serves as a common route for agricultural, freight, and local traffic—making it vulnerable to high-impact incidents involving larger vehicles like straight trucks.
In this case, the SUV veering into the oncoming lane triggered a defensive response that likely prevented a head-on crash but still led to serious consequences. The truck driver’s attempt to avoid the collision caused a rollover, a type of crash that frequently results in injuries due to the size and instability of heavy vehicles when forced off-road.
According to Minnesota crash data, rural roads continue to account for a disproportionate number of serious accidents across the state. Evasive maneuvers, narrow shoulders, and high-speed zones often play a role in injury outcomes, especially when larger commercial vehicles are involved.
Rollover crashes can result in a wide range of injuries, from musculoskeletal trauma to internal injuries. In many rural zones like Lafayette Township, response time and hospital distance are critical factors in minimizing long-term effects. Thankfully, in this case, Allina EMS transported the injured driver promptly to New Ulm Medical Center for treatment.
After a crash like this, recovery involves more than medical care. Victims must often navigate vehicle damage, work interruptions, and documentation required for insurance or legal purposes. Preserving records, obtaining crash reports, and seeking medical evaluation even for seemingly minor symptoms can be essential steps.
