Las Vegas, NV (September 16, 2025) – A fatal collision involving a semi-truck and an SUV claimed one life Monday morning in Las Vegas. The crash occurred around 10:35 a.m. at the intersection of West Washington Ave and North Decatur Blvd, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The crash involved a Mack Anthem semi-truck pulling a trailer and a GMC Terrain. Investigators determined that the GMC was traveling eastbound on Washington Ave at a high rate of speed while the semi-truck was exiting a private drive just east of the intersection, turning west onto Washington Ave. The front of the GMC struck the left side of the semi-truck in a violent impact.
Emergency personnel arrived promptly, but the driver of the GMC had to be mechanically extricated from the severely damaged vehicle. Tragically, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and was evaluated by officers, who reported signs of impairment. The individual was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police confirmed this marks the 115th traffic-related fatality within Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
Our thoughts go out to the victim’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
DUI-Related Fatalities and Commercial Vehicle Crashes in Nevada
Monday’s deadly crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle in Las Vegas brings renewed focus to two major dangers on Nevada roads: impaired driving and commercial vehicle collisions. Both are significant contributors to fatal accidents each year, and when they intersect—as seen in this case—the outcome is often devastating.
The involvement of a Mack Anthem semi-truck suggests a vehicle with considerable size and weight, making any collision with a smaller vehicle extremely dangerous. Even at moderate speeds, these trucks can cause catastrophic damage, particularly when an SUV like a GMC Terrain is involved.
Compounding the tragedy is the allegation that the semi-truck driver was under the influence. DUI-related crashes are entirely preventable and continue to be a leading cause of roadway fatalities. When the impaired driver is operating a commercial vehicle, the responsibility and risk increase exponentially.
According to authorities, the GMC driver may also have been speeding—a reminder that safe driving is a shared responsibility. Unfortunately, no matter the contributing factors, the victim’s life was lost in an instant, and the consequences ripple far beyond the scene of the crash.
Las Vegas has seen a troubling number of traffic-related deaths this year, and this marks another life cut short by a preventable incident. Families affected by these tragedies often face legal, medical, and emotional burdens with little warning.
If your family has been impacted by a fatal crash involving a commercial vehicle or suspected DUI, timely legal and emotional support is crucial.
