Laurel County, KY (August 4, 2025) – A fatal three-vehicle collision early Friday morning has left one woman dead and others hospitalized, with a suspect driver now in custody and another still being sought. The crash occurred just after midnight on American Greeting Card Rd, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say 45-year-old Kimberly Hedrick was behind the wheel of an SUV when she crossed the center line and struck a car driven by 67-year-old Benita Vickers in a devastating head-on collision. The impact then caused Hedrick’s SUV to slam into a second SUV driven by David Wynn. Hedrick’s vehicle went airborne from the force of the crash and struck a nearby guardrail before coming to rest.
Vickers was transported to a local hospital but later died as a result of her injuries. Two passengers in Wynn’s SUV were also taken to the hospital with injuries, though their current conditions have not been made public.
Deputies later arrested Hedrick, who now faces charges related to the crash. Meanwhile, David Wynn left the scene before law enforcement arrived. Authorities have confirmed he is wanted on multiple outstanding warrants and have asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Benita Vickers and our well wishes to those recovering from injuries sustained in this crash.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes and Legal Aftermath in Kentucky
Friday morning’s deadly collision on American Greeting Card Rd illustrates the devastating ripple effects that can result from a moment of recklessness or error behind the wheel. Multi-vehicle crashes are complex, often involving layered investigations into who contributed to the outcome and what charges may be filed.
In this case, a centerline crossing led to a fatal head-on collision, a secondary impact, and serious injuries to multiple people. Such collisions are common on undivided roads in Kentucky, especially in rural areas like Laurel County where lane separation is minimal and lighting conditions are often poor—particularly at night.
Authorities now face multiple investigations: the criminal charges against Hedrick, the pursuit of a suspect who fled the scene, and the documentation of injuries for all victims involved. For the family of Benita Vickers, the pain of her loss is compounded by the sudden and violent nature of the crash.
Meanwhile, injured passengers in the third vehicle face recovery challenges that may include long-term medical care, financial instability, and the trauma of witnessing a fatal crash. Legal questions surrounding Wynn’s role in the crash—especially given his departure from the scene and existing warrants—further complicate the civil and criminal landscape.
Victims and their families often need support navigating the aftermath of such crashes: from securing police reports and understanding insurance procedures to exploring legal claims and emotional recovery.
