Rural Intersection Safety in Southern Illinois
Collisions at rural crossroads such as IL-4 and Oak Grove School Rd often pose increased risks due to higher travel speeds, fewer traffic control devices, and limited lighting. In Southern Illinois, rural intersections can be particularly dangerous at times of day when visibility is reduced or when local and through traffic intersect without signalized control. Safety advocates recommend slowing when approaching these junctions and scanning both directions multiple times before entering. While details of Monday’s crash remain under review, the incident is a reminder of the importance of cautious driving on rural roadways, where reaction times can be critical to avoiding serious injury.
