Winning Trials since 1979

Leech Lake Twp, MN (August 18, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash with injuries was reported Saturday morning in Cass County along northbound Hwy 371 near milepost 96. The collision occurred at approximately 7:58 a.m., just north of Remer in Leech Lake Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze was stopped in the northbound lane of Hwy 371 when it was rear-ended by a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. The driver of the Impala, 23-year-old Shana Lynn Reich of Remer, suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Emergency medical personnel from North Ambulance responded to the scene and transported Reich to Cass Lake Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze, identified as 32-year-old Trey Michael Kelley of Walker, was not injured and did not require hospitalization. Both drivers were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and no alcohol involvement was indicated. Airbags deployed in the Impala, while the Cruze’s airbags did not activate.

The road conditions were dry at the time of the crash. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and North Ambulance assisted at the scene, and the Minnesota State Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation into the incident.

We send our best wishes to Ms. Reich for a smooth and full recovery following this unfortunate crash.

Rear-End Accidents in Minnesota

Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of crashes on Minnesota highways, particularly in areas where high-speed traffic converges with local routes. The incident along Hwy 371 in Leech Lake Township exemplifies how quickly a moment of inattention or misjudgment can lead to injuries—even when road conditions are ideal, as they were in this case.

This particular stretch of Hwy 371 is a well-traveled route that connects several rural and residential communities. With vehicles often slowing or stopping for turns, the risk of rear-end crashes increases—especially when visibility is compromised or drivers are not fully alert. In Saturday’s crash, the Chevrolet Cruze was lawfully stopped when it was struck from behind, underscoring the importance of maintaining safe following distances and remaining attentive at all times.

Injuries in rear-end crashes can range from mild discomfort to serious trauma. Even when categorized as non-life-threatening, injuries such as whiplash, soft tissue damage, and head or back pain can have long-lasting effects. Prompt medical care, such as that received by Ms. Reich at Cass Lake Hospital, is essential to ensure proper diagnosis and recovery.

For those involved in collisions, even minor ones, it’s crucial to document the incident thoroughly, obtain any necessary medical evaluations, and consult available resources for support. Timely reporting and follow-up care can make a significant difference in recovery and future well-being.
